Overview Kenya has a relatively modern communication network with telephone, fax, post and Internet services widely available in urban centers and other locations where you are likely to visit as a tourist. Calling Home International direct dialing is now widely available to many countries is available in most urban centres while some rural areas may require international calling through an operator. The country code for Kenya is 254. Mobile Phones Mobile phone technology is now spread across the entire country except in the most remote areas and is based on GSM 900 network. The major mobile phone operators include Safaricom, a partnership with the British conglomerate Vodafone and also Celtel, a pan-african mobile phone company. Mobile phones are sold cheaply and prepaid and post paid services are widely available. Coverage extends to the principal urban centres, major highways and parts of popular game reserves such as the Mara. You should however check beforehand whether your GSM phone is usable if you are traveling outside the main urban centres. You can use your mobile phone to make international calls to any country.
