Description: The Mara experience has remained the once-in-a-lifetime dream of safari lovers ever since the days when hunters thronged the region in search of the ultimate black-maned lion trophy. Natural home to the “Big 5” game, a safari to Kenya cannot be said to be complete without it. During the months of August to November, thousands of visitors get down to the Maasai Mara to witness one of the most spectacular phenomena on earth. Stretching as far as the eye can see, a teeming mass of zebra, wildebeest, and topi, trailed by scavengers make way into the Mara plains from the Serengeti, in what is known as the Great Migration.
It is estimated that over two million animals take part in the journey. When planning for a holiday it is recommended that you set aside 3-5 days in order fully appreciate your stay at the Mara.
The Mara Simba lodge sits overlooking a dramatic bend on the bank of the Talek, a tributary of the Mara River, gently blending into the surrounding wilderness. Stretching almost a kilometer along the river the grounds on the bank remain in their virgin condition, while the landscaped gardens filled with indigenous trees at the back draw a great variety of birds and butterflies. The lodge was conceived with an emphasis on exclusivity and comfort. It was designed to complement its surroundings and is decorated in Maasai traditional style. Wide, well-lit pathways connect the Public areas and rooms.At the Mara Simba, special care is taken to conserve the environment. The Mara Simba is the only truly environment friendly lodge in Kenya as it is the first to install a sewage treatment plant. The plant provides crystal clear water that is used for irrigation. Rooms The 84 guest rooms, arranged in clusters of 6 in each natural wood and stone Banda ( 4 rooms on the ground floor, 2 interconnecting rooms on the first floor), comprise 60 twin rooms, 12 double, 4 double+single and 8 triple rooms. They all have ensuite showers, tiled bathrooms with natural granite and Twyfords, (UK) bathroom fittings. Each spacious room, which can easily accommodate an extra bed, opens onto its own private veranda with uninterrupted views across the river.

All the rooms have a magnificent view of the Talek river and the sorroundings from the veranddah. The rooms are big enough to add extra beds if required.

The public areas, overlooking the Talek River, have floors of cedar wood decking, elevated on Timber posts, and are shaded by soaring makuti (palm thatch) roofs. The dining area, where a delicious cuisine of succulent meat dishes and vegetarian menus are served, and the bar, each have stone fireplaces, focal points in the cool of the evening.
A well-stocked shop sells personal, photographic and souvenir items. Our naturalist, who presents talks on the wildlife and ecology of the Maasai Mara, also conducts foot safaris, slide shows and Maasai cultural lectures. After game drives, our large, sparkling swimming pool invites you to cool relaxation. Night time floodlit viewing, from the comfort of chairs set on the wide, open veranda fronting the lounge and dining area, may reveal an elusive leopard across the silvery water.

Meal times are at the lodge are as follows:-
Breakfast is between 7:00am - 9:30am while lunch is served between 12.30pm and 2.30pm in the afternoon. The final meal of the day, dinner, is served between the hours of 7.30pm and 9.30pm in the evening.
Nature and Bird Walks A nature walk reveals a rich diversity of flora thriving on the edge of the lake, with a colorful range of over 400 bird species, making it a paradise for bird lovers and researchers. One can see the Brimstone Canary, Spectacled Weaver, the Yellow Collared Love bird, the Red-billed Finch and the Lammergeyer. The lake has a healthy fish population, which attracting the Cormorant, the Black Heron, and Pied Kingfisher.
The lush vegetation supports a variety of wild animals such as buffalo, dik dik, giraffe, the back and white colubus monkey, and on any afternoon you are likely to catch sight of hippos lazily watching proceedings from the surface of the lake.
Boat Rides The hotel offers lake frontage with direct access to private jetty. A sunset cruise by boat will give you breathtaking views and allow you to get closer to the water animals. Fishing is allowed during six months a year and you can catch carp, tilapia and the occasional blackbass. Take a trip to the Crescent Island and enjoy seeing implala, waterbuck and warthog. You are also likely to make acquaintance with Chatu, the resident python.
Hell’s Gate Close by is Hell’s Gate National Park, which was named from its giant red cliffs outlining an interior cauldron of bubbling underground steam. The filming location of Tomb Raider II, its cliffs are a haven for rock climbers and a breeding ground for Verreaux’s eagles and Swifts. Activities that are carried out in the park include cycling, camping picnics and horseback safaris. One can also visit the geothermal power station and see the steam wells.
